When a player commits an act of violence which is against the rules of the game they are sent to the penatly box, or "sin bin" to sit out and pay time for their actions. The penatly box is , very loosely, similar to a confession booth or repentence in Catholic Faith. Once a player has sinned they must sit and think about their wrongful actionsand confess and repent for them. Once they have confessed and sat their time they may rejoin the play, free of their wrong- doing. Of course in hockey sitting in the "sin bin" is not something you choose, but all the same it is the game's version of repenting for ones wrongful action.
